Adding Text

Finding text 

I used the website Fontsinuse to discover appropriate fonts for my images. It was suggested to me after the final group crit and I found that it really helped me choose and pick fonts that really worked with the image. The website allows for you to search for a decade and then it shows you publications and popular fonts from that time period, which was idyllic for this project. 

Choosing the typeface

To choose the most fitting typeface for each image I chose around 3 for each image and typed them out on the image to see which worked best. Some were easy to choose as they went with the image so much better than others. Seeing it visually really helped as it’s hard to fully decide without seeing it all together.

Some fonts I had to find a very similar font or a remake as I couldn’t find the original typeface.

Adding the text

As I work on Procreate I took my image over to Illustrator to be able to type on a path to give the text more character. I then would save the text as a separate layer and take it back to Procreate to get the best quality I could.

Unfortunately anytime I added the text in Illustrator it would crash and I was only able to create 2 of the images with text, this was very frustrating after sourcing the typefaces I wanted to use and even more frustrating that the images couldn’t be completed.

I found researching the different typefaces really interesting and https://fontsinuse.com/ to be a really useful source which I will definitely be using again for future projects.
