500 Words Reflection

Project

Overall I am happy with how my project turned out in the end, it took a different approach, however I am pleased with what I have achieved. I would like to develop it further possibly one day. My favourite pieces are the Typeface as I am proud I managed to create a working typeface from scratch. I also am very pleased with how the set of illustrations turned out, I think the colour palette worked really well with the images. I enjoy using bright colours in my work to make them stand out and draw the eye in. In this situation this works perfectly as the aim of the illustrations are to raise awareness.

Professional Practice

I feel a lot clearer, now on what my next steps will be as an illustrator. I have a clear plan ahead which professional practice helped to put in place. I also learnt some vital skills from the lectures each week and the workshops. The Anna Steinberg workshop really stood out to me as there are many points that were mentioned that I can now apply to future situations. I feel less afraid to charge what I should and to make sure I dont sell myself short, which I was guilty of doing previously.

Viva

After some technical errors I was able to do my Viva again.  I had to quickly overcome a problem and adapt to what situation I could. I managed to do my Viva at university in the end and I’m pleased with how it went. At the beginning I was a little thrown off as I had had to restart a few times due to trouble with wifi. However, after I got into the presentation again I felt more relaxed. I think being in the studio helped me feel more professional also, as I was not just sat in my room at home, which has been the norm for the past year.

How my visual language has improved

My visual language has improved vastly over the 3 years during the illustration course. I also think my visual language has started to come together properly this year. I am much happier with using limited colour palettes and the techniques I use now. I still enjoy experimenting and I want to continue to push myself to continue developing my visual language, however I am quite pleased at how it has developed up to now.

Overall

This year I have learned many new skills, some including creating a typeface and creating gifs, which I don’t think I would have been able to do a year ago to this level. I am proud to see how my work has come on throughout the degree and also this year alone. I  have a better understanding of how to be a freelance illustrator and which areas of illustration I’d like to work in, in the future. I feel a lot more confident about finishing university than I did at the beginning of the year. Which goes to show how much I’ve learned this year which has really prepared me for what is to come.
