During working on our responsive pathway we had a quick 3 day brief with illustrator Chris Madden. Our brief was to respond to an article from the Daily Times about a mother who had reconciled with her daughters after leaving them years ago.
I began creating the roughs of some ideas that came to mind. My main idea was a hand holding a flower or a bouquet but with no one there to receive it. The flowers would be held upside down and the falling petals could also represent tears.I added another hand in to show the absence of the mother yet she was still there. My other two ideas were a phone with the cord cut to represent lost communication and that the ties have been cut and then I created another version as they reconcile at the end, this time with the cord plastered back together.
I emailed the roughs back to Chris Madden and he sent me feedback on which he liked. He seemed to really like my first idea which was my favourite also so then I went back to that image to create the final draft. I made the illustration neater and added a bit more detail. I also changed the colour of the second hand to make it match the colour theme and to make it look less ghostly.
Chris Madden was happy with my images which I was very glad about as I created them in a style I don’t tend to use. I really enjoyed the short turn around as there wasn’t any time to second guess things. I also am really happy with how my illustration turned out especially once I mocked it up onto the article itself.
