Expressive Typography

Today we were looking at expressive typography, we had to listen to recordings and draw the words as we heard them, we had 10 minutes to create some ideas and then another 10 create an outcome.

The first recording was of Stephen Fry, as he put emphasise on some words I tried to convey that through creating a hierarchy of type such as the SO and the famous. I wanted it to look quite expressive so I used many different typefaces added details and made some of the text a lot smaller.

The second recording was of Amy Childs. Since she has a very strong Essex accent I changed some of the spellings and spelt it the way she says it. As the video was hard to understand I crossed out the word diction in ‘dictionary’. The word obviously was said  I put a wave through it to mimic the tone of her voice.

I really enjoyed creating these and the creativity that was involved in this exercise and how expressive it was. It’s also made me think a lot about how things can be written and shown to show how things you can’t hear have been said and pronounced.
